Ingredients:
For the Wantons:
- 250g (about 8 oz) minced pork or chicken
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/2 cup finely chopped green onions
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Wonton wrappers (available in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores)
For the Soup:
- 6 cups chicken broth (homemade or store-bought)
- 2 cups chopped bok choy or spinach
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Additional chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Preparing the Wantons:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the minced pork or chicken with soy sauce, sesame oil, minced ginger, minced garlic, chopped green onions, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well until thoroughly combined.
- Place a small spoonful of the mixture in the center of a wonton wrapper.
- Wet the edges of the wonton wrapper with water, then fold it over to form a triangle. Press the edges firmly to seal.
- Bring the two bottom corners of the triangle together and press to seal, creating the classic wonton shape. Repeat with the remaining filling and wrappers.
Making the Soup:
- In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the chopped bok choy or spinach to the broth and cook for 2-3 minutes until wilted.
- Season the broth with soy sauce and sesame oil, adjusting to taste.
- Carefully drop the prepared wontons into the simmering broth and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface and the filling is cooked through.
- Once the wontons are cooked, ladle the soup into bowls, making sure to distribute the wontons and greens evenly.
- Garnish with additional chopped green onions if desired, and serve hot.
